YOGA

Yoga is a deeply spiritual practice meant to bring about self-realization and union with the Divine. There are many layers to the yoga practice that go well beyond the physical. Whether through postures, breathwork, meditation or study, yoga has the potential to create true and lasting well-being of both the physical and subtle body. In my teaching, I incorporate the higher aspects of yoga rather than simply focusing on physical postures. Therefore, in my asana classes expect to not only move your body and shift your energy but also learn about yogic philosophy, experience the power of mantra and taste the sweetness of meditation. The styles of asana that I teach are as follows:

Ayurvedic Yoga

Also known as yoga chikitsa, this field of Ayurveda is designed to complement the physical, mental and pranic condition of the student and can be used both as an individualized daily practice as well as method for creating and maintaining a state of well-being. Drawn from traditional hatha yoga practices, it employs carefully sequenced postures, yogic breathing, mantra and meditation, all used within the framework of Ayurvedic terms and energetics. This integration of yoga and Ayurveda provides a greater possibility for healing at the deepest level. Due to the highly individualized approach to this practice it is generally not taught in public classes, but rather in private sessions.

Vinyasa Yoga

Vinyasa Yoga is a flowing practice that links breath and movement to create a balanced state of mind. Moving through the asana provides the opportunity to explore the body and release any stored tension. Focusing on the breath allows the mental chatter to quiet and the stillness to arise within. The practice as a whole works to build strength, enhance flexibility, and release toxins.
